Budding young authors offered the chance to have their own books published
We are looking for the next David Walliams or Enid Blyton
The Cork International Hotel has launched a search for Ireland’s next budding children’s author. We are giving children all around Ireland the chance to write their own children’s book. Our first book of the summer has just been launched; written by the creative and talented Jamie Hickey, whose mum Sarah has been working in the hotel for 14 years.
Our General Manager, Carmel Lonergan said “The idea for the storybook initiative came from a hotel management team’s brainstorming session during lockdown. Our accommodations manager at the hotel, Davina Murphy was look at family bedroom amenities that could enhance a family stay and came up with the idea to add a child’s story to their pillow.
As front office manager, Edel Kavanagh and Davina started making plans for re-opening, the idea was developed further with the assistance of Sarah Hickey from reception, who is also part of the Family Concierge team.
We are now inviting children to get creative and write us a fantastic story, to see it actually be published into a mini storybook. The chosen stories will then be available for all of our guests to bring home with them.
- Create a short story that features our superhero character, Rio from Cork International Hotel. You may also choose to include our other superheroes, Metro from The Metropole Hotel Cork and Olive from Cork Airport Hotel.
- Use the places you visit in Cork and our hotels as your inspiration. Stories should be no more than 350 words
- Ask an adult for permission and send us your story, name, age, address and phone number to: reception@corkinternationalhotel.com and use the subject line: ‘Short Story Submission’
- The winner will become our ‘Kids Featured Author’. Their story will be published and shared in our guests’ rooms, for all our visitors to read.
