6 Tips for Planning your Multigeneration Family Holiday

6 Tips for Planning your Multigeneration Family Holiday

So, you are planning a trip with the entire family, but not sure where to start? After a year of staying apart, it is time to get everyone together once again. From the kids, to the grandparents, to the aunts & uncles and cousins, multi-generation breaks are definitely the newest trend. As we have all learned, spending time with friends and family is important for everyone. To make sure your plans go off without a blip, here are our top tips for planning a wonderful holiday with extended family so that you can create wonderful memories together.

1. You Don’t Need To Spend Every Hour Together

If you are the organiser of the family trip, make sure that you leave space for each family unit to enjoy their own time together. Create a loose itinerary around the main activities of the day, for example, enjoy a delicious breakfast in our Atlantic Restaurant, followed by a trip to Blarney Castle & Gardens or Spike Island. After this, allow time for everyone to spend it as they wish in the afternoon before reuniting at The New Yorker Bar & Restaurant for drinks and food and to chat & share about the activities and photos from the day.

2. Enjoy Your Own Space

Our room options mean that everyone can have their own space to come back to and rest in after a fun day of activities. You can choose from our large and spacious family rooms, our interconnecting rooms which can hold 2 adults and up to four kids, our large suites with separate lounge and kitchenette, or a mix. We even offer discounts for group bookings. Speak to our reservations team to chat about the best option for you. Plus, now you can even give the kids their own little space with our teepees and treat your children to a camp-out in the comfort of your family hotel room. Our team will set up a cute tepee with delicious milk & homemade cookies for an outdoor experience indoors. Email our Family Concierge to book.

3. Make An Occasion of One Evening

We have missed so many celebrations, anniversaries and birthdays that it would be quite nice to have an excuse to get dressed up and indulge in a private family dinner. Our Pacific Suite is ideal for catering for families of all sizes, or a big Family BBQ where you can celebrate together and reflect on any of the missed moments. Our Conference and Banqueting manager, Emma, can help you plan this occasion and add little personal touches. Maybe everyone can contribute some photos from the time when you could not see each other, or arrange some bonding activities for family fun.

4. Book a Big Family Experience for Everyone

Sometimes, having too many activities can mean that some family members may struggle to keep up the itinerary. By booking one big family activity that everyone can attend and enjoy during your stay is it is a great way to bond and create memories. Why not take an Ocean Escape Boat Tour of Kinsale and enjoy our tasty picnic boxes on the pier, or a family day out to Fota Wildlife Park to see the animals. Want something that involves some teamwork and bonding? Zip-It Cork is a fantastic for all members of the family and you will be bursting with energy afterwards.

5. Share the Child Care

Take this opportunity with all the aunties and uncles to enjoy some time for just the adults. Take turns minding the children so the adults can perhaps enjoy relaxed drinks in our lobby, a trip to Kinsale Mead tasting and tour, or trip to one of the many fantastic golf courses Cork has to offer. Those staying with the kids could head off to Leahy’s Farm or book our private cinema room for an afternoon movie.

6. Downtime is Essential

At Cork International Hotel, we believe that time spent together is time well spent so we have lots within our hotel for you to enjoy as a family. Have a family challenge in our lobby with our board game library or enjoy beauty, hair and nail treatments at our in-house salon. Enjoy your evening with a private movie screening in our cinema room or let the kids enjoy time in our playroom while the teens play air hockey. In the morning relax in your room with our in-room virtual yoga class or use our PressReader App to read up on the latest news with a coffee in hand.
