JULY 2025 Winner – Helen Noonan is the July Community Spirit Award Winner
Helen Noonan has been named the July recipient of The Cork International
Hotel Community Spirit Award, presented in association with The Carrigdhoun
Newspaper. After 30 years of dedicated service, Helen is stepping away from
her role as Child Welfare Officer with the Cork Women’s and Schoolgirls
Soccer League (CWSSL), leaving behind a remarkable legacy defined by
care, commitment and an unwavering focus on young players.
For three decades, Helen has been the quiet constant at the heart of the
CWSSL. From managing trial lists and welfare documentation to supporting
representative squads and fielding late-night phone calls about pitches,
fixtures and player welfare, her presence has been a steady source of
reassurance for clubs, coaches, parents and players alike. Her work often
took place behind the scenes, but its impact was felt across every level of the
league.
She worked closely with squads ranging from Under-12 right through to senior
level, ensuring structures were in place to support players. Player welfare was
always at the forefront of her work, and she consistently advocated for best
practice, fairness and opportunity within the league.
She was known for pushing for the very best for them, while also keeping the
wider committee focused, informed and accountable. Her approach combined
professionalism with warmth, and her ability to balance administration with
empathy made her an invaluable figure within the CWSSL.
Beyond policies and procedures, Helen’s influence can be seen in the
generations of girls who took their first steps into football through the league.
Many began their journeys under her watchful eye, supported by her guidance
and encouragement. For countless players and families, she was a trusted
voice, offering calm advice and genuine care during both challenges and
celebrations.
Her recognition as the July Community Spirit Award recipient is a fitting tribute
to 30 years of service, dedication and leadership. Helen Noonan’s legacy
within the Cork Women’s and Schoolgirls Soccer League is one of
compassion, consistency and community spirit, and her contribution will long
be remembered by all those whose lives she touched through the game
