CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory (CITBCO) is a 16th Century Castle located on the banks of the River Lee. The castle was originally built to serve as a watch tower to guard the rivers entrance against pirates and other invaders. In present day, the Castle now serves as Ireland’s first fully interactive Astronomy Centre.

How To Get There
To begin your trip to Blackrock Castle Observatory, take the second exit at the first roundabout on leaving the hotel. Continue driving straight through the proceeding roundabouts until you join the N2, bringing you towards Cork City. Continue on this road for 3km before arriving at the Kinsale Road Roundabout. Take the third exit onto the N40 ramp for South Ring (East). Continue on this route for approximately 5km, before exiting for Mahon/Blackrock/Mahon Point (R852). Use the left 2 lanes for R852. Continue driving onwards for 700m before turning right onto St Michael’s Drive. Continue onwards until you meet a roundabout where you will take the first exit. Drive another 800m before exiting right for Castle Road. Continue on this route where you will find your destination on your right.
